Getting Started
At Mid Island Psychology Associates, we take a comprehensive, individualized approach to care, tailoring each treatment plan to the specific needs of the client and family.
We begin with a free 15-minute phone consultation to assess fit with our practice and help match you with the most appropriate clinician. From there, a full intake evaluation is scheduled to better understand your concerns and determine the recommended level of care.
Treatment intensity varies based on need:
- Intensive Treatment Options
For individuals experiencing more significant impairment, we offer high-frequency treatment (up to 20 hours per week). These programs are designed to create meaningful progress quickly, with the goal of gradually reducing frequency as functioning improves. Intensive care typically lasts 1–2 months, followed by a step-down phase. - Step-Down & Ongoing Support
As symptoms improve, clients may transition to 2–3 sessions per week to support continued progress, prevent relapse, and assist with returning to school, work, or daily activities. - Standard Outpatient Therapy
For those needing less intensive support, we offer weekly or biweekly sessions, focused on skill-building and steady progress over time.
All treatment recommendations—including frequency and level of care—are discussed collaboratively at the end of the intake process.
Once treatment goals are met, we offer booster sessions (typically 1–2 sessions) to help individuals navigate new or challenging situations and reinforce skills without returning to ongoing therapy.
We also provide in-home sessions for individuals whose symptoms make it difficult to come into the office or when treatment is most effective in the home environment.
For those participating in intensive programs, our office is conveniently located near major highways and public transportation, approximately a 40-minute train ride from Manhattan, with access to nearby lodging and dining.
Our goal is to make the process of getting started clear, supportive, and flexible, so you can access the right level of care at the right time.
